The Magis Community
Our Lecturers
The Rev. Cn. Mark Hottel
The Rev. Cn. Mark Hottel serves as Director of The Magis Society. He holds an M.A.R. in Biblical Studies (Trinity Anglican Seminary) and oversees Holy Orders formation for the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes in his role as the Canon to the Ordinary. He and his wife Alicia were joined in Holy Matrimony in 2016 and have been serving the Church together ever since in various capacities, especially delighting in welcoming friends around their table. Fr. Mark, Alicia, and their four children have made their home in the Greater Akron area where every playground is worth stopping at, maple trees in the yard mean real maple syrup on the table, and imagination comes to life through stories constantly.
The Very Rev. Chad Sanner
Fr. Chad serves as the Rector of St. John’s Anglican Church in Canton, Ohio. A graduate of Malone University, Fr. Chad grew up in nearby Green, Ohio and has been a member of St. John’s since its founding in 2017. He earned his MDiv at Trinity Anglican Seminary in Ambridge, Pennsylvania in December of 2021, and has served as Rector since December of 2024. Throughout his Christian journey, he has become increasingly convinced of the church’s need for holistic formation and instruction (what the church has traditionally called “catechesis”) that embraces the entirety of the human being: heart, soul, mind, and strength. The communities of St. John’s and the Magis Society are two of many realms in which he and his wife, Maria, pursue this exciting vocation.
