ORDERED TO GOD.

FORMED FOR VOCATION.

Magis

[màh-gis]

The Latin for “more” to show degrees of action, not in quantity but in quality. The word has been used by Christians for hundreds of years to talk about the Christian life and seeking to devote more praise and attention to God to his own glory.

Welcome to the Magis Society.

Each year, the Magis Society invites a small cohort of emerging adults to deeply order their lives to God by committing to the society’s Rule of Life, step into a rhythm of prayer, study, work, and sabbath, all amidst the stability of community of the society and the parish it is attached to, St. John’s Canton (ACNA).

Why do it?

Those who commit to the Magis Society for a year desire to form lifelong habits of prayer, to drink deeply from the Christian tradition, to belong within a genuine community, and to learn to hear God's call to follow Jesus.

The Magis Society is a great community to explore for those who:

  • are at vocational crossroads desiring to discern direction in a community dedicated to obedience to Christ and faithfulness to each other

  • seek to pursue lifelong habits of prayer and to deepen spiritual disciplines alongside others before life gets even busier

  • desire to grow and would value working one-on-one with a tutor, a coach, and a spiritual director

  • love the life of the mind and want to study church history, theology, poetry, philosophy, and more--becoming immersed in the great tradition of the Christian faith.

  • want to know deeply the reconciliation of Christ in their lives and pursue the reintegration of their whole being as a personal joy and gift to everyone they will know in life.

If devoting focused space in your life to Christ centered growth and holistic transformation is something you desire to do, the Magis Society’s Formation Year might be for you.

Applications for the 2026-2027 cohort are open from The Feast of the Epiphany (January 6th) to the Feast of the Ascension (May 14). We will process applications that come in on a rolling basis. The earlier you apply, the sooner you’ll hear back from us!
